1. What is Vision Therapy?
Vision therapy is like a physical therapy or physiotherapy for the eyes and the brain!
It is a sequence of activities individually prescribed and monitored by the vision therapist to develop, rehabilitate, and enhance efficient visual skills and processing.
2. Who needs to do this and why?
Vision therapy can help improve visual function in cases where there is
- Amblyopia (“lazy eye”)
- Strabismus (crossed or turned eyes)
- Convergence Insufficiency (CI)
- Convergence Excess
- Vision-related learning problems
- Visual processing problems
- Loss of visual function secondary to concussion, stroke, or injury
- Poor eye-hand coordination and/or sports performance
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Developmental Information Processing Disorders
- Special populations like Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, ADHD and Fragile X Syndrome.
3. At what age can one start this therapy?
It can be started as early as the child can comprehend the instruction given for the therapy.
4. The advantages of the therapy.
It involves an individualized treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies and enhance the brain’s ability to control:
- Eye alignment
- Eye tracking and eye teaming
- Eye focusing abilities
- Eye movement control
- Visual processing
5. Are there some people who are not allowed to do this or is it open for everyone?
No, there is no such limitations for vision therapy, any one at any age can benefit from this to succeed in learning, reading and sports activities.
