Yesterday, Tuesday 4th June, the Barraquer Institute held its Annual Meeting. The Auditorium II of this institution was the stage where the work of different collaborators and residents was recognised and professional and personal bonds were strengthened.
Prof. Rafael I. Barraquer inaugurated the event, welcoming the attendees and initiating a day full of recognition, special moments and a guest speaker of great level.
One of the most awaited moments of the meeting was the presentation of diplomas to the "Collaborators of the Year 2023", coordinated by Eva Gomis, Head of the Barraquer Institute. The award winners, unanimously selected by the Governing Board of the Barraquer Institute, were:
Embassy of Algeria - Caisse Militaire: For the relationship with the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre and its administrative support to Algerian citizens displaced to Spain in charge of the Caisse Militaire, its accompaniment and translation of medical visits, as well as its long history of trust with the super-specialised ophthalmologists of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre. The diploma was collected by Mr. Lammari, Head of the Barcelona Office.
Shakira Mebarak Ripoll, Founder of the "Pies Descalzos Foundation": For the relationship with the Barraquer Foundation and her collaboration in the organisation of the expedition to Cartagena de Indias, where the Barraquer Foundation carried out visual health check-ups for the students of the school Lomas del Peyé. Ms. Sofía Leclair, COO of Shakent, collected the diploma.
Dr. Jordi Franch Serracanta and the "Grup de recerca clínica i experimental en traumatologia i ortopèdia veterinàries de la UAB": For the relationship with the area of Teaching and Research. This award recognises its relevant participation in the preparation, surgery and post-surgical monitoring of experimental animals in an inter-institutional research project, in which the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre has participated. The diploma was collected by Dr. Jordi Franch Serracanta himself.
During the Annual Meeting, the great work of our residents was also recognised through the presentation of awards. Dr. Rojas received the award for the best poster, Dr. Javier Pérez and Dr. Núria Cintas shared the award for the best oral or video communication. Dr. Alejandro Alcaide was recognised for the best publication outside PubMed, while Dr. Inés Corbella and Dr. Anna Bruix received the award for the best publication in PubMed. Finally, Dr. Carla Caballero was named Resident of the Year, thanks to her academic and professional excellence.
These awards underline the commitment of the Barraquer Institute to continuous training, the pursuit of excellence and research in ophthalmology.
The day ended with the lecture "Super Powers" presented by Mago More, a renowned lecturer and trainer.
Finally, Prof. Rafael I. Barraquer, had the honour of closing the event by offering a glass of cava.
