Our Centre has a highly specialised Vitreous and Retina Department
The retina covers the inside of the eyeball and is a nerve tissue, the role of which is to translate the images of the world into a language that the brain can interpret. The photoreceptors cells (cones and rods) contain proteins sensitive to light and use a cascade of biochemical reactions to convert this light into an electric signal. The signal passes to the next neurons which start processing it and send it to the brain where conscious vision will take place.
The main pathologies treated in this department are:
Pharmacological
Physical therapy
Vitreous retinal surgery
Artificial vision
Our team is made up of expert surgeons who are nationally and internationally renowned:
People with diabetes are predisposed to suffer complications in their eye health such as diabetic retinopathy or macular edema. These conditions may not present symptoms initially and cause irreversible damage, but they can be prevented with ophthalmological check-ups.
