On Tuesday, November 5th, as part of the "Mirem per tu" program, a team from the Barraquer Foundation traveled to the Fundació Albert, located in the Born neighborhood of Barcelona, to conduct comprehensive visual health check-ups for children in vulnerable situations.
The Fundació Albert is a non-profit organization established in 2014 with the aim of assisting families living in poverty and at risk of social exclusion. Its mission is to promote equal opportunities and social integration, enabling these families to achieve self-sufficiency. Each year, through various programs and activities, they support 70 families and more than 1,000 children.
During the check-up day, we examined a total of 35 children between the ages of 5 and 12. Eleven of them will need to visit General Óptica in the coming weeks for a more thorough optometric evaluation to determine their exact prescription and receive glasses to address their vision problems. The remaining 24 were found to have good visual health.
We extend special thanks to our colleagues from the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre, Dr. Andrea Pastor and Dr. María Cejudo, as well as Cristina Rupérez, an optometrist from General Optica, for their generous collaboration. We also want to highlight the hard work and excellent organization of the professionals at the Fundació Albert, who made our task much easier throughout the day.
