Face-to-face sessions of our Master's Programs at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center

During the last weeks of May and June 2024, at the Barraquer Institute in Barcelona we have organized a few days of face-to-face activities for the students of the Masters in Pathology and Surgery of the Anterior and Posterior Segment of the Eye. These voluntary activities allow students to meet their colleagues and teachers, exchange knowledge and experiences, and strengthen their theoretical and practical skills.

These days are a fundamental part of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center's educational approach, offering a combination of theoretical, practical and social learning that prepares future ophthalmology specialists for their professional careers.

During their stay at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center, our students have carried out the following face-to-face activities:

Welcome breakfast and guided tour: The students were welcomed with a breakfast and a detailed tour of the center's facilities, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the environment and meet the teaching team.

Viewing Live Surgeries: In our legendary surgical amphitheatres, designed with integrated audio systems, students were able to observe complicated and exceptional surgeries by Barraquer's prestigious team of surgeons, in real time, listening to the explanations and performing live questions

Learning based on clinical cases: Three group sessions were carried out monitored by our two Academic Directors (Dr. Sonia Viver and Dr. Paola Sauvageot) where clinical cases were analyzed, ending with presentations of conclusions. This methodology encourages critical thinking and the practical application of theoretical knowledge.

EyeSi 3D Surgery Simulator Demo: The students attended a demo with this advanced simulator, led by our instructor Dr. Federico Trejos, where they checked the level of virtual reality and the efficiency of this tool to improve surgical skills in a controlled and safe environment.

Specialized visits: They included, among other areas, the Eye Bank and the image testing department, providing a complete overview of advanced ophthalmological processes and techniques.

Access to the Josefa Moner de Barraquer library: With more than 10,000 books and multimedia material, in addition to subscriptions to specialized magazines, students had access to a vast amount of educational resources.

Farewell cocktail and group photo: To close the days, a cocktail was organized where students and teachers could share experiences and reflect on what they had learned, followed by a group photo..
