There are many ways of handling lenses, depending on the adapted lens itself.
Soft contact lenses, the most popular among the majority of the population, are the easiest to handle. They require dexterity with the index finger and thumb: together they must both be placed on the lens and trap it by using a pinching action on the inner part of its edge.
Hard, corneal and scleral lenses can be removed through pressure/occlusion of the eyelid or with the help of special lens remover. It depends on the skill of the user, but ideally they should be aware of both options.
Before handing lenses over to patients, we must always be sure that they know how to handle them and maintain them. Their handling and upkeep alike can be the cause of serious problems, which can be easily avoided. Your contactologist will advise you on best practice.
