The term ocular hypertension refers to the situation where the pressure inside the eyeball, called intraocular pressure, is higher than normal. Normal intraocular pressure ranges between 10 and 21 mm Hg. Blood pressure is the force inside the body’s arteries when the heart beats (systolic pressure) and when the heart is at rest (diastolic pressure). Changes in blood pressure do not affect eye pressure, but high blood pressure is a risk factor for various eye diseases.
