I wear glasses or contact lenses, can I have laser refractive surgery?

29/04/2024

We speak of laser refractive surgery as the set of surgical techniques that aim to correct the defects of the eye (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism) and thus dispense with, or at least reduce, refractive the use of glasses and contact lenses.

Laser refractive surgery, whether through the LASIK, PRK or SMILE technique, is the most used method for the correction of mild and moderate refractive errors. This is due to its reliability and safety.

In the first visit, we evaluate the current prescription, the state of ocular health and perform a complete eye examination. Depending on the results, we determine the most advisable type of intervention in each case.

Can I have surgery?

Patients must meet a series of requirements to be able to undergo surgery:

  • I am over 18 years old.
  • My graduation is stable and has not undergone significant changes in recent years.
  • I have myopia, astigmatism or hyperopia.
  • I do not suffer from eye diseases that contraindicate the intervention.
  • I am not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • I do not take medications that affect surgery.
  • There are no contraindications after performing the preoperative examinations.
