Orbit and oculoplastic surgery

02/06/2020

At our Centre, we have an Orbit and Oculoplastic Surgery Department that treats orbit pathologies and carries out functional and aesthetic eyelid surgery.

The eye orbit is the set of structures that surround the eye: muscles, membrane, fat and bones that form the orbital cavity where the eyeball is located.

The lacrimal apparatus is made up of different orbital structures including the lacrimal gland, the lacrimal sac and the nasolacrimal duct, which are responsible for producing and draining tears.

The essential job of the eyelids is to protect the eye.  The anterior segment of the eye, and, in particular, the cornea, are very delicate structures. They need to be in perfect condition to work properly. The eyelids play a crucial role in this task and any change to their position may lead to poor eye protection, a change to the eye’s surface and a visual compromise.

The main pathologies treated in our department are:

  • Blepharitis
  • Blepharospasm
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Chalazion
  • Ectropion
  • Entropion
  • Eyelid malposition
  • Nasolacrimal duct obstruction
  • Thyroid eye disease
  • Droopy eyelids
  • Childhood eyelid ptosis
