Refractive surgery step by step

We speak of laser refractive surgery to refer to the set of surgical techniques that aim to correct the refractive defects of the eye (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism) and thus dispense with, or at least reduce, the use of glasses and contact lenses.

Laser refractive surgery, whether through the LASIK, PRK or SMILE technique, due to its reliability and safety, is the most used method for the correction of mild and moderate refractive errors.

Am I eligible for surgery?

• I am over 18 years old.

• My graduation is stable and has not undergone significant changes in recent years.

• I have myopia, astigmatism or farsightedness.

• I do not suffer from eye diseases that contraindicate the intervention.

• I am not pregnant or breastfeeding.

• I do not take medications that affect surgery.

• There are no contraindications after performing the preoperative examinations.

We explain the surgery step by step. The protocol, although it may vary depending on the history and evolution of the case, is as follows:

First visit

• If you wear contact lenses, stop using them 48 hours before the visit.

• Optometric examination: We assess your vision and determine, how many diopters you have.

• Topography: we study the corneal shape to specify the most appropriate intervention.

• Consultation with the ophthalmologist.

Preoperative exams

Refrain from wearing contact lenses for 15 days before surgery. You will come the day before the intervention to perform the final tests and prepare for the surgery with the maximum guarantees.

Day of intervention

The operation is an outpatient procedure lasting approximately 15 minutes. Afterwards you will stay in the exam room for 30 minutes and return home with uncovered eyes. We operate both eyes on the same day.

Control visits

You will have a visit the next day after surgery and another visit one month after the intervention.
