Dolores spent a happy childhood in Alconchel (Badajoz), the town of her birth. At the age of 16, she moved to Barcelona, where she met her husband, worked, and raised her children. She worked in Germany for 2 years and returned to Barcelona.
She recalls the first time she came to the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre, accompanying her 83-year-old mother, who had cataracts and chose to come to "the best place, with the best doctors, the ophthalmology centre where she could undergo surgery with peace of mind."
Back then, patients stayed overnight in the hospital, and Dolores stayed with her mother. She vividly remembers the night spent at the centre and how well they were treated. The results of her mother's operation were excellent, and 10 years later, Dolores continued to trust the centre. She came with her son Rafael, who needed treatment, and she recalls receiving excellent care.
Today, more than 40 years later, her daughter Dolors has accompanied Dolores, our patient, for cataract surgery, just as Dolores did with her mother. Over the years, Barraquer continues to help people regain their sight generation after generation.
Dolores tells us that before the cataract surgery, she had lost a significant amount of vision, couldn't see well, and felt "as if there were steps on the street, making it difficult to walk comfortably." She was also hesitant to take the bus, and all of this led to a significant loss of quality of life. Now she knows she can go out on the street again with confidence. She has regained 90% of her vision and expresses immense gratitude to Dr. Pešić, who performed the surgery, to his secretary Silvia, and to all the staff at the center and the Barraquer Foundation who accompanied her.
