Last Tuesday, December 3, as part of the “Mirem per tu” program, a team from the Barraquer Foundation visited the Terral association, located in Barcelona's Raval neighborhood, to conduct comprehensive eye health check-ups for girls and young women in vulnerable situations.
Terral is a socio-educational support center that has been working for more than twenty years to assist disadvantaged women and girls in the neighborhood. It focuses on promoting their integration and personal development, combating the marginalization and social exclusion of their families, and encouraging volunteerism.
During the check-up day, we attended to a total of 28 girls and young women aged between 7 and 20 years. Of these, five will need to visit General Óptica in the coming weeks to determine their exact prescriptions and obtain glasses. Another six users will be referred to the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre for more in-depth examinations. The remaining 17 were found to have good visual health.
We would like to extend our special thanks to our colleagues at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre Dr. Clara Pons and Dr. María Nadal, and Rubén Martos, an optometrist at General Optica, for their generous and selfless collaboration.
