Why is it important for children to undergo regular eye checkups?
The integral development and school performance of children and teenagers depends largely on the correct evolution of their vision. What we do not learn to see in childhood we do not get back in the future. For this reason, it is essential to correct vision problems in time, since they will not have a solution later.
What are the most common eye diseases in children and adolescents?
Refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, as well as strabismus and amblyopia or lazy eye, are the most frequent pathologies that affect the eye health of children. These conditions should be diagnosed and treated as early as possible.
We chatted with our pediatric optometrist Susana Escalera, who sees about 30 children a day in her office. Her experience and skills are paramount to a successfult eye exam of these small patients, some of whom are still a baby. It seems like a simple task, but it is not.
