Blue light is emitted mostly by the sun, but also by artificial light sources, such as electronic device screens or LED bulbs. It corresponds to the range of the visible light spectrum whose wavelength is between 380 and 500 nanometres.
Up to now, there is no scientific evidence to show that the exposure to blue light by the daily use of screens can cause damage to the eyes. The main problem with electronic devices is not the light they emit, but their prolonged use, a fact that causes us to spend too much time without blinking or without changing the visual focus, producing a sensation of dryness and eye fatigue.
At the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre we recommend compensating for the use of screens by taking frequent breaks, as well as spending more time doing outdoor activities.
